Business History
In 1976, James “Marty” Swyden, and Barton A. Long became friends while attending the Electrical Union Apprenticeship Program. This friendship was the beginning of a life-long partnership.
Marty grew up around the construction/general contracting business working for his father, Tom Swyden, of Swyden Construction Company. After Marty & Bart graduated from the Electrical Union Apprenticeship Program, they each worked for other employers as electrical journeymen to gain experience in the trade. Two years later, full of ambition and faith, they decided to go into business together.
Jamars & Long was formed on December 15, 1982 by partnership agreement, and was a business that provided only electrical contracting services. All of the company income, except what was needed to pay modest salaries and a small truck loan, was left in the company to build working capital. Over the next few years the capital base grew steadily and the size and volume of work opportunity increased proportionately.
In 1984, in conjunction with Swyden Construction Company, Jamars and Long was able to build a new shop/office building and began hiring employees to handle the growing work load. In April, 1984, Jamars and Long incorporated and diversified to provide Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) services as well. In 2002, Jamars and Long, Inc. advanced further into General Contracting and hired Tom Swyden as their consultant.
Over the years, Jamars and Long, Inc. has become established as a trustworthy and reliable electrical, mechanical and general contractor in the Oklahoma City and surrounding areas. Its success can be attributed to effective communication between the two owners and their willingness to work together for the good of the company. Jamars and Long, Inc. also employs a dependable and hard-working staff which has helped the company to become what it is today.
Jamars and Long, Inc. has now remodeled and expanded its office and warehouse. The Company operates with a fleet of late model service vehicles and its capital base is stronger than ever. After essentially starting the business working out of their homes with only their personal tools and a strong will to succeed, Marty Swyden and Bart Long have shaped Jamars and Long, Inc. into a leading business in the marketplace.
